Prospects and Challenges of the Residual Oil Industry in Indonesia
As the world’s largest palm oil producer, Indonesia holds significant potential in the residual oil industry, including Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), Palm Acid Oil (PAO), Used Cooking Oil (UCO), Crude Palm Oil (CPO), and Mixed Acid Oil (MAO). Global demand continues to rise, particularly from the renewable. energy and oleochemical sectors. In recent years, the export of residual oil has seen a significant surge. Data from 2024 shows that POME and HAPOR exports reached 3.45 million tons, surpassing CPO exports, which stood at only 2.70 million tons. This trend highlights the growing role of residual oil in global trade. However, with the government tightening export regulations to support domestic industries and the B40 biodiesel program, industry players face new challenges. Priority is now given to meeting domestic demand, requiring businesses to adapt to remain competitive in the global market while supporting national economic growth. As the Indonesian Residual Oil Exporters Association (APMIRI), we are committed to bridging industry interests with national policies, promoting business sustainability, and ensuring that the residual oil sector continues to contribute to Indonesia’s economy.
